What are the labeling requirements?

One World Direct requires a barcode on each product to ensure accuracy of product inventory and the efficiency of inbound shipments. This article outlines those requirements, as well as actions taken if a product does not contain a correct barcode.

All products should contain a barcode and label in accordance with one of the following types of barcodes:

  1.  UPC barcodes that include:
    1. 12-digit UPC
    2. EAN 13
    3. ISBN 14
    4. EAN 14
  2. Code 39
  3. Code 128

Barcodes prior to receiving:

Whenever possible, items should be barcoded by the manufacturer before they arrive at One World Direct's facility. OWD will provide a file with the 6-digit ID number from OWD's system so the manufacturer can print and affix the label.

If your manufacturer does not have the ability to print barcodes, OWD can create and print the barcodes to be shipped to the manufacturer. This process is billed at the hourly rate outlined in your agreement. Postage to ship any labels to the manufacturer is also billed to the customer.

New Products

When a new product arrives at our facility, the barcode will be scanned by our Receiving Team, then assigned to a designated OWD ID/SKU. When the item arrives again in the future, our handheld devices will automatically register the SKU number when receiving, picking, or packing.

Items that arrive without a barcode:

If items arrive at the warehouse without barcodes, those items will be moved to our Non-Conforming Area. From there, we will print and affix barcodes to all unlabeled units. This process will be billed at the per unit labeling fee in your agreement.
