What is dimensional weight and how is it calculated?
What is dimensional weight?
Dimensional weight is the amount of space a package occupies in relation to its actual weight. For each shipment, you are charged based on the dimensional weight or actual weight of the package—whichever is greater.
You can determine whether your package will be assessed dimensional weight by using the following formula:

If the dimensional weight is more than the actual weight, you will be charged the dimensional weight.
What is a DIM Divisor?
A DIM Divisor is set by carriers to represent cubic inches per pound. DIM Divisors will differentiate based on the carrier used and whether a package is shipped domestically within the US or internationally.
Which DIM Divisor should I use?
| Shipment Type | DIM Divisor | Notes |
| Economy, Ground, & Priority Shipments |
Minimum of 139 |
All shipments below 1 lb. will only use actual weight. Shipments that are greater than 1 lb. will have dimensional weight calculated. The larger weight will be assessed. |
| Overnight, 2nd Day, & International shipments | 139 | All international shipments will have dimensional weight calculated. The larger weight will be assessed. |
It's important to note that some carriers and shipping methods can bill in ounce increments (every 0.25 lb.), whereas some will round up to 1 lb. increments. For example, a package weighing 0.75 lbs. will be billed at 1 lb. and a package weighing 1.25 lbs. will be billed at 2 lbs.
Here are some example carriers that round up to an even lb.:
-
USPS Priority Mail
- UPS Ground Saver

FedEx Ground
